Method

  1. Run the acai packets briefly under warm water for about 10 seconds to loosen them slightly, then break each packet into chunks with your hands.
  2. Add the acai chunks, 1 frozen sliced banana, 1 cup frozen mixed berries, 1/2 cup milk, and 1 tablespoon honey to a high-powered blender.
  3. Blend on low speed first to break up the fruit, using the tamper or stopping to scrape down the sides as needed, then increase to high speed and blend for 30 to 45 seconds, until thick and smooth.
  4. The mixture should be much thicker than a drinkable smoothie, close to soft-serve ice cream consistency; add milk only 1 tablespoon at a time if the blender is struggling, to avoid thinning it too much.
  5. Place two serving bowls in the freezer for a few minutes before dividing the smoothie, if you have time; chilled bowls keep the smoothie thick longer.
  6. Divide the smoothie base evenly between the two bowls, smoothing the tops with the back of a spoon.
  7. Arrange the fresh banana slices and strawberry slices decoratively over the top of each bowl.
  8. Sprinkle granola, coconut flakes, and chia seeds over the fruit.
  9. Serve immediately with a spoon while still thick and cold.

Tips

  • Use fully frozen fruit and keep the liquid to a minimum for a thick, spoonable bowl rather than a runny smoothie.
  • Chilling the bowls in the freezer for a few minutes beforehand helps the smoothie stay thick longer while you eat.
